Elon Musk documentary ‘Musk,’ directed by Alex Gibney, acquired by Universal in international territories

Universal Pictures Content Group has secured the international rights to the Elon Musk documentary titled 'Musk', helmed by Academy Award-winning director Alex Gibney, according to The Economic Times. The negotiations for this deal originated during the Cannes Film Festival, marking one of the largest documentary deals ever struck at the Cannes market. HBO Documentary Films previously acquired North American streaming and TV rights in a significant pre-sale during the spring, while the possibility of a domestic theatrical release is still being considered, as per a report in Deadline.
Alex Gibney, known for directing acclaimed documentaries like "The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley," the Oscar-nominated "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room," and the Oscar-winning "Taxi to the Dark Side," takes the directorial reins for 'Musk'.
The film's production is a collaborative effort between Jigsaw Productions and a consortium of companies, including Closer Media, Anonymous Content's AC Independent division, and Double Agent. The film's production team includes Jessie Deeter, Erin Edeiken, Richard Perello, Joey Marra, Zhang Xin, William Horberg, Nick Shumaker, Jessica Grimshaw, David Levine, Dana O'Keefe, Teddy Schwarzman, Michael Heimler, John Friedberg, Yariv Milchan, and Michael Schaefer, among others.
From outer space to social media, US billionaire Elon Musk has a sizeable presence. Last year, Musk completed his $44 billion deal to acquire the social media firm 'X' (formerly Twitter).
