First day of 12th Global Baku Forum wraps up with panel on “The UN Pact for the Future: Building a New Global Consensus”

The first day of the 12th Global Baku Forum concluded on Thursday with the panel session on “The UN Pact for the Future: Building a New Global Consensus.”
Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, President of North Macedonia, addressed the panel session, moderated by Zlatko Lagumdzija, Permanent Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Nations, and former Prime Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina (2001-2002) and Deputy Prime Minister (2012-2015).
Guy Ryder, Under-Secretary-General for Policy at the UN, delivered a video address, noting that the UN Pact for the Future is a landmark international agreement. “Along with the Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations, it opens up new opportunities and untapped potential. This document will lay the foundation for a peaceful, just and sustainable world order for all peoples and nations,” he underlined.
In his remarks, Tomas Lamanauskas, Deputy Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, said that the progress made on Azerbaijan's Sustainable Development Goals and joint financial activities within the framework of COP29 proves that the UN and its member countries and organizations can reach an agreement through collective efforts.
Other speakers at the session also included Najat Mokhtar, Deputy Director-General, International Atomic Energy Agency, and Head of the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications; Csaba Kőrösi, President of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly; Asad M. Khan, Secretary-General of the Economic Cooperation Organization; Akif Çağatay Kılıç, Chief Adviser on National Security and Foreign Policy to the President of the Republic of Türkiye; Katalin Novák, President of Hungary (2022-2024); Hafez Ghanem, Regional Vice President of the World Bank for Eastern and Southern Africa (2020-2022); and Borut Pahor, President of Slovenia (2012-2022).
In their remarks, the speakers stressed the significance of establishing close ties and collaboration with all countries for the UN to function more effectively, drawing attention to the importance of conducting constructive dialogue in the current situation in the world.
