Gambian minister: We are calling on countries that have been historic emitters to contribute to funding
Baku, November 12, AZERTAC
“COP is one of the most widely attended and the highest level of climate change engagements. Hopefully in COP29 we'll be able to agree on the new collective quantified goals,” Rohey John, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources, told AZERTAC.
“Gambia is a small economy. We are not much industrialized, and we are also a coastal country. So we are highly affected by the sea level rise and also the climate change, the induced climate change, rain patterns, change in rain patterns, and also the climate induced aspect when it comes to the weather patterns. We want contributors to support. We have a very unique NDC that is responsive to the 1.5 targets. But again, finance is our challenge. So we're calling on countries that have been the historic emitters to contribute to funding. Countries that are big, that have been emitting, that are historically emitter, should contribute towards climate change so that we can have actions that will benefit all of us together,” she added.
