German Bundestag members issue statement on 20th anniversary of Khojaly genocide

Baku, February 26 (AZERTAC). Katrin Werner and Annette Groth, members of the group DIE LINKE in the German Bundestag have issued a statement on the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
They recalled how leading international human rights organizations gave assessment to this genocide committed by Armenians against innocent people of Khojaly, saying this massacre must be recognized as a grave war crime. They noted “Human Rights Watch” and Russia`s “Memorial” organization called this tragedy as the most terrible massacre in the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh.
The German MPs said more than 600 Azerbaijanis were brutally killed by Armenian armed forces.
Katrin Werner described the Khojaly bloodshed as a sorrowful and cruel culmination of the history of long-term wars between Armenia and Azerbaijan. “There is no justification for mass killing of innocent people. During the war Armenia brutally violated the humanitarian law of war and committed grave military crime. This massacre can not be denied. It is historical fact.”
Annette Groth, in turn, said victims of the Khojaly genocide must be defended and perpetrators must be punished. “Denying the crime is crime itself.”
