COP29
Global lead on climate justice: My primary expectation from COP29 is that wealthy countries must allocate enough money
Baku, November 11, AZERTAC
“The COP29 is so important for the countries of the Global South who have been hit over and over again by climate disasters and who are now paying every year already for the cost of climate change,” Teresa Anderson, Global lead on climate justice at ActionAid International Organization, told AZERTAC.
“It is time for the wealthy countries of the Global North to finally pay up. Because they have caused the climate crisis. Now they need to contribute climate finance. Now they need to contribute climate finance,” she said.
“So in COP29 the question is will rich countries give enough money for the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on Climate Finance. And it is really important for the Azerbaijani government to stand in the shoes of countries of the Global South, to understand how it is to be hit by climate disasters every year, to be pushed deeper into debt and to have no support from the countries that have caused the disaster. So we want the government of Azerbaijan to stand in the shoes of the global south and to really provide the support that is needed to unlock the finance and the solutions to help take our planet to a safer place,” Teresa Anderson emphasized.
