Italian President Sergio Mattarella, PM Meloni among many to pay respects to Napolitano

President of Italy Sergio Mattarella and Premier Giorgia Meloni were among many institutional representatives to pay their respects on Sunday to the late two-time former Italian president Giorgio Napolitano, who died in Rome on Friday aged 98, according to ANSA.
Senate Speaker Ignazio La Russa, European Commissioner for Economic Affairs and former premier Paolo Gentiloni, and former European Central Bank president, Bank of Italy chief and premier Mario Draghi also visited the chapel of rest in the upper house of parliament, where Napolitano's body will lie in state until Monday afternoon.
The coffin was escorted from Rome's Salvator Mundi clinic, where Napolitano died on Friday evening, to the Senate by the Corazzieri, the Italian presidential guard of honour, on motorbike.
The funeral will be celebrated with a non-religious ceremony at the Lower House on Tuesday at 11:30 am local time.
