“I am from Bonaire, the island in the Caribbean. Our native Papiamentu language is one of the only two languages in the Caribbean, which survived colonization. On behalf of the people of Bonaire, I would like to thank the Baku Initiative Group team and the members of the Azerbaijani government present here today, as well as the people of Azerbaijan for the exceptional hospitality shown to us,” said James Finies, Founder of the Bonaire Movement for Change as he addressed the “Bonaire’s pathway from Baku through UN General Assembly to self-determination” international conference in Baku on Thursday.

“This is the first time in our history that a group of the Bonaire citizens appears on the global stage to fight for their rights and the rights of their future generations,” Finies added.
