MEETING OF PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV WITH PRIME MINISTER OF UKRAINE VIKTOR YANUKOVICH
President Ilham Aliyev thanked the Ukrainian side for the participation in the inauguration ceremony and asked to extend his best wishes to President Leonid Kuchma. He said that due to the policy of Heydar Aliyev and Leonid Kuchma good neighboring and friendly relations have been established between Azerbaijan and Ukraine. Ilham Aliyev assured that the relations between two countries would be further expanded and strengthened.
On behalf of President of Ukraine and on his own behalf on Prime Minister of Ukraine congratulated Ilham Aliyev on his convincing victory in the elections, and noted that relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine, which had been fostered thanks to the successful policy by Heydar Aliyev and Leonid Kuchma would be steadily developing. Pointing out strategic character of the bilateral ties he noted that Ukraine has always supported territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Economic links are also rapidly developing. Viktor Yanukovich stressed the Ukrainian interest in delivery of agricultural products to Azerbaijan and transportation of the Caspian oil through Odessa-Brodi pipeline. He also conveyed to the new President of Azerbaijan the invitation from Leonid Kuchma to visit Ukraine as soon as possible.
Speaking of the active involvement of the Ukrainian companies in economic life of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has supported the idea on transportation of the Caspian oil through Odessa-Brodi pipeline and import of Ukrainian agricultural products, despite the high level of agricultural industry in Azerbaijan.
Member of the Ukrainian delegation to Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Anatoliy Rakhanskiy on behalf of the PACE members has congratulated Ilham Aliyev on the worthy election to the highest state post, and having noted his contributions to the PACE activities, has handed him the Gold star “Honor and Dignity” founded by the International Committee for Human Rights Protection.
Present at the meeting was ambassador of Ukraine to Azerbaijan Boris Aleksenko.
