Netherlands hosts opening of carpet exhibition "Splendid Azerbaijani Carpets: Learning through Art"

A new carpet exhibition titled “Splendid Azerbaijani Carpets: Learning through Art” has opened at The Hague City Hall. The event was jointly organized by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Azerkhalcha.
The opening ceremony brought together city officials, representatives of Dutch state institutions, members of the diplomatic corps, international organizations, cultural and academic communities, and members of the Azerbaijani diaspora.
Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Mammad Ahmadzade, noted that the exhibition is part of a series of international events marking the 15th anniversary of Azerbaijani carpet weaving’s inclusion on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The Ambassador spoke about the rich history of Azerbaijani carpet weaving, describing it as a vivid example of the country’s ancient cultural heritage. He also noted that renowned Dutch painters such as Jan van Eyck and Hans Memling incorporated Azerbaijani carpet motifs into their artworks.
Deputy Mayor of The Hague, Nur Icar, expressed his pleasure in hosting the exhibition at the city’s municipal building.
Emin Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of Azerkhalcha OJSC, highlighted the exhibition’s role in deepening cultural exchange between the two countries.
The gala concluded with a concert featuring national dances performed by the “Kharibulbul” dance group.
The exhibition will run for one month and aims to strengthen cultural ties between Azerbaijan and the Netherlands.
