Nine, including foreign nationals, arrested in Georgia as police seize illegal weapons, ammunition

Police in Georgia have arrested nine individuals, including foreign citizens, in a series of raids across the country targeting illegal firearms and ammunition, Agenda.ge reported citing the country’s Interior Ministry.
The operations, conducted in capital Tbilisi and several other regions, resulted in the seizure of pistols, automatic firearms, and hand grenades, the body said.
In Tbilisi, police detained a 35-year-old man with a prior conviction. A search of his residence uncovered a pistol, a muzzleloader, and 12 cartridges.
Officers arrested four individuals in separate operations across Lagodekhi, Kvareli, Dedoplistskaro, and Sagarejo municipalities of eastern Georgia and seized items including four pistols, three other firearms, a sawn-off hunting rifle, an automatic weapon, 77 cartridges, and a hand grenade.
A foreign national was arrested in the Adjara region of western Georgia, where police had found a firearm, 41 cartridges and a magazine.
In Marneuli in south-eastern Georgia, law enforcement also detained another foreign national, and seized a firearm, 10 cartridges, and a magazine.
A 39 year-old was detained during a personal search in Shida Kartli region in central Georgia. A firearm, muzzle, and 15 cartridges were recovered from his apartment, the MIA said.
The individuals face charges of illegal possession and storage of firearms. If convicted, they could face prison terms of up to seven years.
