ONE-ON-ONE MEETING OF AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV WITH FEDERAL CHANCELLOR OF GERMANY GERHARD SCHROEDER
During the one-on-one conversation following the meeting, the Head of the German Government expressed his pleasure with seeing the Azerbaijan President in Berlin for the first time after presidential elections.
Thanking Mr. Schroeder, President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that this visit would give a powerful impulse to development of the existing friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Germany. The sides held an exchange of views on development of bilateral cooperation, current state of political relations, and international and regional situation.
Federal Chancellor Schroeder reaffirmed touching on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict that Germany had always supported and would continue to support the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and as an OSCE active member would intensify its efforts for finding urgent, peaceful and fair solution to the conflict.
He described the Azerbaijan’s intention to purchase German Airbus as a manifestation of developing economic cooperation between the two countries, adding that his country is planning not only make investments in Azerbaijan but also bring state-of-the-art technologies to the country. According to Mr. Schroeder, a conference dealing with investment opportunities in Azerbaijan will be held in either late 2004 or early 2005 in Berlin.
During the meeting held in a warm and sincere atmosphere, President Ilham Aliyev and Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder also touched upon the global energy projects being implemented in Azerbaijan.
