Pakistan rejects Indian claims of targeting Sikh holy site Golden Temple during recent tensions

Pakistan on Tuesday rejected Indian claims that it had attempted to target the Golden Temple in Amritsar — one of the holiest sites in the Sikh faith — amid recent tensions between the two neighboring countries.
In response to media queries regarding remarks made by a senior Indian Army officer, who alleged that Pakistan had attempted to attack the Golden Temple with drones and missiles during the night of May 7–8, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement categorically denying the accusation.
“We categorically reject the allegations that Pakistan attempted to target the Golden Temple, the most revered place in the Sikh faith,” the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said.
“We hold all places of worship in the highest regard and cannot even conceive of targeting a holy site such as the Golden Temple. In fact, it was India that targeted several places of worship in Pakistan on the night of May 6–7. The Indian side’s allegations cannot deflect attention from this unacceptable act,” the statement added.
The Ministry further emphasized that Pakistan is a proud custodian of many sacred sites of the Sikh faith. Every year, it welcomes thousands of Sikh pilgrims from around the world and provides visa-free access to Gurdwara Sahib Kartarpur through the Kartarpur Corridor.
“In this context, any claim that Pakistan attempted to target the Golden Temple is entirely baseless and false,” the statement concluded.
