Baku, December 5, AZERTAC
Organized by the Western Azerbaijan Community, a panel session on "Reconciliation and Peacebuilding Efforts in Conflict-Affected Regions" was held as part of the second international conference “The Right to Return: Advancing Justice for Azerbaijanis Expelled from Armenia.”
The session was moderated by Gaya Mammadov, a member of the Western Azerbaijan Community and MP of the Milli Majlis.
Speakers at the event included Uriarte Sanchez Carlos, a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the School of Economic Management at the Autonomous University of Madrid; Damjan Krnjević Mišković, a representative of the Institute for Development and Diplomacy at ADA University; Lord Arnold Duncan McNair, founder of the non-governmental organization "Peaceful Planet" in the UK; and Jannah Scott, CEO of the American Center for Religious Freedom. They underscored the importance of reconciliation and peacebuilding processes.
They emphasized the imperative for Azerbaijanis and Armenians to foster harmonious coexistence and the importance of peacebuilding and collaborative engagement. Describing the establishment of peace in the region as crucial, the speakers noted that the international community must show greater sensitivity towards the right of return for Azerbaijanis forcefully expelled from their ancestral lands and advocate for the realization of this right to promote enduring peace in the region.
The panel discussion also touched upon Armenia's nuclear plant, which has raised international concerns regarding its safety record.
