President of Türkiye: ECO member states must factor climate change into sustainable development policies
Ankara, July 4, AZERTAC
“Türkiye is located in a region that feels the negative consequences of climate change most acutely. In this regard, I consider it especially important for the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) to concentrate their efforts on combating the climate crisis,” said President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his speech at the 17th ECO Summit in Khankendi.
The Turkish leader emphasized the importance of ECO countries implementing national sustainable development strategies that take climate change into account.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan drew attention to Ankara’s declared environmental goals, including the target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2053.
“Today, we are working toward a green transformation of key economic sectors, focusing on innovative approaches and the active use of renewable energy sources (RES),” said the President of Türkiye.
He noted that the share of RES in Türkiye’s total installed energy capacity has reached 59%. “In this regard, Türkiye ranks fifth in Europe and eleventh in the world,” he stated, assuring that Ankara is ready to share its experience with other ECO member states.
