Role of Urban Thinkers Campus Initiative as a global action platform highlighted at WUF13
Baku, May 22, AZERTAC
The importance of the Urban Thinkers Campus (UTC) initiative as an action platform that strengthens cooperation between global and local levels was discussed as part of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku.
The event emphasized the need to link global dialogue with local action in a period when cities face growing challenges such as climate risks, social inequality, infrastructure gaps, and urbanization pressures.
The Urban Thinkers Campus operates as a decentralized platform that brings together multilateral stakeholders, enables the development of joint solutions, and integrates local voices into global policy processes.
The session highlighted that WUF13 holds strategic significance for repositioning the Urban Thinkers Campus initiative as a key implementation mechanism for accelerating actions in urban planning and strengthening multilateral partnerships.
The main objective of the session was to officially present the Urban Thinkers Campus as a global-to-local action platform supporting the implementation of urban priorities and to mobilize international partners around it.
It was emphasized that cities are not only places where risks are concentrated but also the primary sources of innovative solutions and sustainable development opportunities. The Urban Thinkers Campus platform was described as turning dialogue into concrete action based on local needs.
The session, organized in an interactive format, continued with opening remarks, presentation of the future vision and action roadmap of the UTC, speeches by partner organizations, and a call for commitments to organize Urban Thinkers Campuses in various countries.
The expected outcomes of the event include wider international recognition of the UTC initiative, the formation of new partnerships, and the promotion of commitments to organize UTC events in different countries.
