Scorching heatwave grips Pakistan: Temperature to remain 5 to 7°C above normal

Pakistan continues to reel under an intense heatwave as temperatures soar above normal across the country. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the ongoing intense heatwave is likely to continue on Thursday, affecting most parts of the country.
Temperatures in the northern areas of the country, parts of Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province are expected to remain 5 to 7°C above normal. Most regions in Pakistan will experience hot and dry weather, with severe heat expected in the plains.
The extreme heatwave has gripped Pakistan for several days, with almost all cities across the country reporting temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius. In Bhakkar city of Punjab province and Jacobabad city of Sindh province, the mercury reached 49°C. The twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi experienced a maximum temperature of 44°C, marking the hottest day of the ongoing summer season.
According to the prediction of the Met Department, the heatwave is expected to continue for the next 48–72 hours. In view of the situation, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has alerted all provincial departments to remain vigilant.
Provincial authorities have issued health advisories urging citizens to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, and watch for symptoms of heatstroke. The public has been advised to take precautionary measures, including avoiding direct sunlight.
