Second international symposium of architects of the Turkic world held in Turkistan

On June 10-11, the 2nd International Symposium of Restorers Historian-Architects of the Turkic World was held in the city of Turkistan, Kazakhstan.
Organized by the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and the Akimat of Turkistan Region, the event brought together Aktoty Raimkulova, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation; Yertay Altayev, Deputy Governor of Turkistan Province; Osama El Nahas, heritage expert at ICESCO; representatives of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Culture and Information; and international experts.
At the plenary session, representatives of scientific institutions from Turkic countries delivered presentations on the application of modern technologies in the study of architectural heritage, restoration methods, traditional building materials, and the impact of climate conditions on monument preservation.
The symposium continued with panel sessions on two key themes: “The historical and cultural significance and research of monuments of Turkic civilization” and “The preservation and restoration of architectural monuments.” Discussions addressed topics such as the value of monuments, the role of digital solutions in restoration, preventive conservation, and interdisciplinary approaches to cultural heritage. Experts from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, and Hungary shared their experience. Azerbaijan was represented by Zaur Hasanov, Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
One of the key highlights of the symposium was the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the 950th anniversary of the great encyclopedic work “Divan-i Lughat at-Turk” by Mahmud al-Kashgari, along with a musical performance titled “Myng zaman – bir Turkistan” held at the Cultural Center of the Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University.
As part of the program, participants visited the Otyrar district, where they explored the Mausoleums of ArystanBab and Khoja Akhmet Yassawi, gaining firsthand insight into the architectural legacy of the Turkic world.
The symposium made a meaningful contribution to advancing scientific and practical cooperation in the preservation and promotion of the shared heritage of the Turkic world.
