SECRETARY-GENERAL BAN KI-MOON INAUGURATES NEW TEMPORARY NORTH LAWN BUILDING AT UN HEADQUARTERS
Baku, 12 January (AZERTAC). UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon Monday cut ribbon to mark the opening of the new Temporary North Lawn Building at the UN headquarters, the working home for the world body for the next two to three years.
The inauguration marks another milestone in the Capital Master Plan, a renovation project underway at the UN Headquarters in the New York, Ban said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
"This building was designed to serve for a limited period, to be functional and cost-effective," Ban said. "As you will see, it is no-frills. There are no escalators. The windows are limited. We have simple concrete floors. No carpets."
"This structure is more than a short-term home," he said. "It is a key building block for the renovation of the Conference and Secretariat Buildings."
