Session on “Coalition of builders promoting productive partnerships in the Global South” held at WUF13
Baku, May 22, AZERTAC
A session dealing with Coalition of builders promoting productive partnerships in the global south, and Pre-launch of the CAHF Housing Finance Yearbook 2025/2026 was held as part of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), organized by the Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa (CAHF).
The event discussed the formation of sustainable cooperation mechanisms among state institutions, private companies, financial institutions, investors, international organizations, and communities in the housing sector.
Ahmed Baba, Technical Assistant to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Family Homes Funds Limited in Nigeria, stated in his speech that according to UN-Habitat data for 2026, the number of people living in inadequate housing conditions worldwide has reached approximately 3.4 billion. More than 70% of this figure comes from Global South countries.
He noted that while the problem was previously observed mainly in Eastern regions, recent crises in the Middle East have significantly worsened the situation.
He pointed out that, according to experts’ assessments, this figure means that more than 100 million people are facing housing problems.
Other experts noted that the existing financing gap affects the entire value chain of the housing sector. Therefore, the formation of a new financial architecture based on proper risk management and more precise financial mechanisms is considered essential.
The event saw an exchange of views on establishing long-term dialogue between international and regional institutions, finance and real estate networks, local governance structures, and development partners, as well as ways to turn global platforms such as WUF13 into real and localized outcomes.
