Somali Minister: Ensuring international cooperation and justice is essential to combat the impacts of climate change
Baku, May 13, AZERTAC
“The outcomes of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in Baku, have set a new course for climate action in three key areas. One of these is the transfer of technology. Countries must share effective technologies with one another, particularly those related to adaptation, mitigation, and climate action, to more effectively combat climate change,” said Mohamed Abdi Hayir, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of Somalia, during his speech at the “Agriculture Mobilizing Countries for Nature” conference, held as part of the 30th Azerbaijan International Food Industry Exhibition “InterFood Azerbaijan” and the 18th Azerbaijan International Agricultural Exhibition “Caspian Agro.”
He noted that it is important not to limit efforts to past experiences, and emphasized the need to share innovative ideas and approaches alongside technology.
Mohamed Abdi Hayir said, “Another crucial aspect is international cooperation. Climate change is, in itself, a form of injustice. Poor and vulnerable countries—those contributing least to pollution—are suffering the most. Therefore, international cooperation and climate justice must be ensured in order to effectively address the impacts of climate change.”
