Speaker of Milli Majlis informs participants of CIS Parliamentary Assembly plenary session about WUF13

Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova participated in the 60th plenary session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (CIS IPA) on May 22 during her working visit to Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Addressing the session, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis emphasized the Assembly’s important role in promoting dialogue and cooperation among the legislative bodies of member states, noting that it serves as a platform for discussing a broad range of issues of mutual interest. She also highlighted the significance of the Assembly’s regular events, meetings, and seminars, as well as the successful implementation of its initiatives and proposals.
In her remarks, Sahiba Gafarova briefed participants on the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku. She noted that WUF13, which was held from May 17 to 22, is one of the world’s most prestigious international platforms dedicated to sustainable urban development and urbanization issues.
Sahiba Gafarova stressed that hosting the session in Baku reflects Azerbaijan’s ability to bring countries and communities together around shared goals.
The Speaker also noted that an Inter-Parliamentary Assembly event on “Sustainable Development of Mountain Settlements” was held within the framework of WUF13. She emphasized that the initiative helped draw attention to the development of mountainous regions, which is particularly important for many CIS countries, while also enabling a substantive exchange of experience. She expressed satisfaction with the active participation of parliamentarians from member states in the discussions.
Sahiba Gafarova stated that the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly serves not only as a multilateral platform, but also contributes to the development of bilateral parliamentary cooperation among member states. She also mentioned her recent participation, alongside CIS IPA colleagues, in the Second Asian Women’s Forum held in Bukhara, Uzbekistan.
The Speaker informed participants that the 24th meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation will be held in June. She also highlighted the importance of CIS IPA initiatives aimed at strengthening humanitarian cooperation.
In conclusion, Sahiba Gafarova said the CIS IPA continues to serve confidently as an effective platform for regular parliamentary interaction. She expressed confidence that joint efforts to expand and strengthen cooperation within the Assembly would continue in the future.
