Tajikistan’s efforts will be focused on enhancing positive image of CIS in international arena, says ambassador

Baku, January 23, AZERTAC
“Tajikistan’s efforts will be focused on enhancing the positive image of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) as an integrated union in the international arena, expanding relations with the United Nations (UN) and its specialized agencies, as well as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and other regional organizations. This includes holding joint events on specific topics and searching for common ground on granting observer status to the SCO under the CIS,” said Ilhom Abdurahmon, Tajikistani Ambassador to Azerbaijan, during the briefing on his country’s CIS chairmanship for 2025.
According to him, for the first time in the history of the CIS, a joint high-level event on the UN-CIS interaction will be held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
“Efforts will be also focused on facilitating the adoption of another UN General Assembly resolution on cooperation between the UN and the CIS, as well as drafting and adopting the statements on topical items of the international agenda serving the interests of the CIS member states at the levels of heads of state and foreign ministers,” the diplomat noted.
