The Cleveland Clinic Foundation released a statement on August 7, AzerTAj’s Washington-based correspondent reports. The statement reads:
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev was hospitalized at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation on August 6, 2003, for evaluation and treatment. He has been previously treated at the Clinic on several occasions since 1999, when he had coronary artery bypass surgery. Currently he is being treated for congestive heart failure, which includes some kidney problems. He has responded favorably to initial treatment. He has no neurological problems. He is resting comfortably in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine.
