Two people were killed and one was hospitalized after a Robinson R-44 helicopter with four people on board crash-landed in Sakhalin, in Russia’s Far East, a source in the local emergencies department told, according to TASS.

"There were four people on board of the Robinson R-44 helicopter - two pilots and two passengers," the source said. "The crashed helicopter was found from the air. The pilot and one of the passengers were found dead, one person was evacuated, and the fate of another is being clarified."

According to him, the pilots and passengers did not have a flight list. He also specified that the bodies of the two dead were found under the wreckage of the helicopter.

"According to preliminary information, the fate of the second pilot is being clarified at the moment," he said.

The press office of the Russian Emergencies Ministry has confirmed the information about the crashed aircraft in Russia’s Far East and the death of two people.

Another source in the emergencies services told TASS that a piloting error could have caused the crash of the helicopter.

"A piloting error could have caused the crash of the Robinson R-44. The helicopter hit a cliff and then descended abruptly," he said.
