UNCTAD Secretary-General commends Azerbaijan’s growing role in regional economic cooperation and connectivity projects

On May 22, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNCTAD. They exchanged views on opportunities for collaboration in the fields of sustainable development, international trade, investment promotion, digital transformation, the green economy, and the integration of developing countries into global economic processes.
Emphasizing the importance Azerbaijan attaches to multilateral cooperation, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided information on the initiatives implemented by the country in regional connectivity, transport and logistics capabilities, energy security, and the climate agenda.
Rebeca Grynspan praised the development of cooperation between UNCTAD and Azerbaijan, highly commending Azerbaijan’s growing role in regional economic cooperation and connectivity projects. She stressed the importance of expanding joint projects in trade and development within the framework of UNCTAD.
The meeting also covered the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process in the post-conflict period, restoration and reconstruction efforts in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, as well as the situation in the Middle East and the impact of current tensions on the global economy and trade.
Other regional and international issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
