US NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION TO OPEN INTERNET COMPUTER CENTERS IN GOYCHAY AND YEVLAX
These schools are participants of the Azerbaijan School Connectivity Program (ASCP), which is administered by Project Harmony and funded by the US Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs under the Freedom Support Act. The program was established in August 2001 and promotes civic education and free and open access to information through the use of Internet technologies in Azerbaijani secondary schools.
This program year ASCP is establishing Internet Computer Centers in twenty-five schools among Baku, Nakhchivan, Kurdamir, Salyan, Ali Bayramli, Shamakhi, Naftalan, Yevlakh, Goychay, Sharur and Quba by providing room renovation, computer equipment, (including five computers, a server, a printer, a scanner and a digital camera), Internet connectivity, and trained staff who conduct computer skills training programs and conduct online projects. Currently there are forty-five Internet Computer Centers functioning at Baku, Ganja, Sumgayit, Mingachevir, Sheki, Lenkaran, Barda, Quba, Ali-Bayramli, Salyan, Shamaxi, Kurdamir, Naxchivan, Sharur and Naftalan schools. These schools have partner schools from the United States and actively work on creative and innovative online projects that support civic education and cross-cultural appreciation.
