‘Water reservoir to be built in Eastern Zangazur to provide drinking water to about 3 million people’
Saatli, December 9, AZERTA
“A number of measures are being implemented to meet the demand for drinking and irrigation water in Eastern Zangazur. It is planned to build a water reservoir with a capacity of 90 million cubic meters of water on the Hakari River. The reservoir will supply water through a 253-km main pipeline with a capacity of 8.5 cubic meters of water per second,” Deputy Chairman of Melioration and Water Management OJSC Rafiq Aslanov told AZERTAC’s regional correspondent.
“The conceptual design was presented to the President. An agreement with the winner of the tender competition for conducting feasibility study and design works was signed, and the work has already started. The water that will be collected in the reservoir to be built on the Hakari River is formed entirely from sources in the territory of Azerbaijan and is of clean and high-quality potable water. Besides the regions liberated from occupation, about 3 million people, including Aghjabadi, Beylagan, Jalilabad, Masalli, Imishli, Saatli and Sabirabad districts, will use the water collected in the reservoir,” he added.
