WUF13 platform highlights Baku neighborhoods in terms of social memory and microclimate
Baku, May 22, AZERTAC
As part of the WUF13, the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction hosted a session entitled “Reimagining climate-responsive courtyard neighborhoods for contemporary cities”.
The session discussed urban natural structures, optimization of microclimate indicators, climate-adaptive features of historical neighborhoods, and the application of traditional neighborhood principles in modern urban planning.
At the session, Farida Gasimova, senior lecturer at the Department of Graphic and Media Design at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, emphasized that the concept of "neighborhood" is not only a residential model, but also an important urban planning element that incorporates the city's social relations and collective memory.
She noted that Baku’s historic neighborhoods evolved in response to local climate conditions, where courtyards and narrow streets provided natural cooling and ventilation, and stressed that applying these principles to modern housing is important for climate adaptation.
