Azerbaijan to share oncology achievements with Iraqi physicians

On the invitation of UK Prime Minister's Trade Envoy for Azerbaijan, Iraq and Turkmenistan Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, Academician Jamil Aliyev, Director General of the National Center of Oncology, and Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the Great Britain Tahir Tagizade, have participated at the event dedicated to the achievements of AMAR Foundation that is engaged in charitable activities in the Middle East.
The goal of the event is to organize reconstruction works at the war-torn territories of Iraq, give concerts and alleviate the plight of local people through donations.
Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne highlighted the oncology achievements in Azerbaijan, recalled her visit to the Oncology Center in Baku, high level of professionals in medical sphere. She expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani Government, Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Azerbaijan Chess Federation for organization of chess tournaments for the Iraqi women who suffered from decades-long conflicts.
Within the event, Academician Jamil Aliyev and Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Tahir Tagizade met with Lord Howell of Guildford, Chair of the House of Lords International Relations Committee, ex-Minister of State (Foreign and Commonwealth Office - International Energy Policy), Former World Bank president, Former First Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, president of AMAR International Charitable Foundation Theodore Zeldin as well as Baroness Nicholson.
In the meetings, mainly were discussed transfer of Azerbaijan’s medical achievements to the Iraqi physicians, arrange trainings for them, promotion of reciprocal visits of British and Azerbaijani medical staff, in particular, the cancer-related physicians. It was also agreed a visit by Baroness Nicholson and Peter Clark, Deputy CEO, professor, to Azerbaijan to exchange experience in the mentioned field. Peter Clark praised the oncological studies in Azerbaijan, the rate of recovery from this disease in the country, and wished to closely be acquainted with the gained practice.
Baroness Nicholson asked Academician Jamil Aliyev to support AMAR’s activity in oncological trainings for Iraqi physicians as an expert.
Note, Baroness Nicholson is the founder and Chairperson of AMAR, which in 2018 turns 25 years.
