Azerbaijani school students present “Kumiho Hunters” cybersecurity project at South Korean Embassy
Baku, October 20, AZERTAC
A group of school students from Azerbaijan presented their cybersecurity initiative, “Kumiho Hunters,” during a meeting at the Embassy of South Korea in Azerbaijan. The students introduced the project, shared its implementation in 18 primary schools across Azerbaijan, and outlined plans to expand its reach in the coming year.
The project helps primary school children recognize online risks and develop safer digital habits through engaging, age-appropriate learning activities. Combining storytelling with practical examples, the team teaches children how to identify suspicious messages, protect personal information, and recognize when to seek help from a trusted adult.
The activities address situations children may encounter in their everyday digital lives: receiving messages from strangers while playing online games, being asked to share private information, or encountering requests for a parent’s bank card details. Children learn to pause before responding, avoid sharing sensitive information, and tell a parent or trusted adult when an interaction seems suspicious or makes them uncomfortable.
The name “Kumiho Hunters” was inspired by the Kumiho, a mythical figure from Korean folklore. It reflects the team’s appreciation for Korea’s rich storytelling traditions and the ways Korean culture inspires young people around the world. The name creates an imaginative connection between storytelling and digital safety and was chosen with respect for Korea, its people, and its cultural heritage, without any negative implication. As the project grows, the team remains committed to explaining this cultural reference clearly and respectfully to young audiences.
Building on implementation in 18 schools, the team plans to bring the project to additional schools next year.
The project was prepared by Nihal Alakbarova, Habib Ramazanzade, Ilyas Taghiyev, Nijat Shikhaliyev, Fatima Ismayilzada, Firangiz Ahmadova, Kimya Aliyeva, Leyli Dadashova, Narmin Alizada and Zahra Nasibli.
The students express their sincere gratitude to the Embassy of South Korea in Azerbaijan for its warm welcome and the opportunity to present their work. They value the chance to share their experience and deepen their understanding of Korean culture through respectful dialogue.
