Nearly 30 years ago, music brought Azerbaijan and Norway together. In 1997, Norway’s SKRUK choir and Azerbaijani performers presented a joint musical project entitled Landet vi kommer fra (“The Country We Come From”). The collaboration brought together two musical cultures, traditions, and creative worlds.
Nearly three decades later, AZERTAC correspondents in Baku and Norway tracked down and interviewed participants in the project to explore how the idea came about, the challenges they overcame, and the memories that have stayed with the musicians. Now, their recollections bring this remarkable story, which began in 1997, back to life.
