6 militants, 2 soldiers killed in operation in NW Pakistan

Baku, October 26, AZERTAC

Six militants and two soldiers were killed in an intelligence-based operation in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Xinhua reported, citing the military.

Security forces conducted the operation on Oct. 24 in Dera Ismail Khan district following reports about the presence of militants, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani army, said in a statement on Sunday.

Six militants belonging to the banned militant outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan were killed during the operation, while two soldiers also lost their lives in an intense exchange of fire, the statement said.

Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the militants, who were allegedly involved in terrorist activities against security forces and law enforcement agencies, as well as attacks on civilians, according to the statement.

A sanitization operation is underway in the area to eliminate any remaining militants, the ISPR said.
