Heydar Aliyev Center to host solo exhibition by famous Belgian artist Wim Delvoye
Baku, April 9, AZERTAC
A solo exhibition by the famous Belgian artist and a well-known face of modern art Wim Delvoye will be held at the Heydar Aliyev Center on April 13.
The exhibition that will last until September 27 will present about 50 works by the artist.
On the eve of the opening ceremony, a catalogue of reproduction of Wim Delvoye’s work has been published. The introduction to the book was written by the vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva. “The modern art exhibitions currently filling up the limitless physical and conceptual space offered by the world’s leading galleries and art salons turned into a very lively and oftentimes disputed element of today’s social life. Despite the ever-increasing and candid interest towards modern art, the search for bold ideas, non-traditional approaches and the desire to come up with new and extraordinary techniques exercised by modern artists frequently come across very ambiguous reaction of the society. In this respect, Wim Delvoye is one of the most charismatic and provocative artists recognized by his ironic attitude and courage of creative content,” writes Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva.
“Offering some unique opportunities to the art enthusiasts to get hands-on experience on the most outstanding art novices worldwide, the Heydar Aliyev Center is now providing a truly fascinating chance to attend the exhibition of Wim Delvoye, one of the most recognized neo-conceptionalists widely known for his controversial works. What expects you at the exhibition is a unique ambiance of the works featuring an enormous artistic diversity and specificity of compositions. I do strongly believe that each person attending the exhibition will cherish sweet memories of this absolutely fascinating atmosphere of Wim Delvoye’s art,” she adds.
Wim Delvoye was born in 1965 in Belgium. He graduated from Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. He has created unique artworks by presenting traditions of Europe in the context of modern mass culture. Works combined patterns and ornaments in contemporary storylines - statues - have brought success to the artist. In his artworks, Delvoye manages to combine components in various contexts and gives them brand new meaning and content.
Wim Delvoye’s works have been displayed in a number of world-class museums and galleries such as the Louvre, the Georges Pompidou National Arts and Cultural Center (Paris), and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection (Venice) so far. He was a participant of Venice Biennial in 1990 and Documenta IX exhibition held in Kassel, Germany in 1992.
