Baku, June 27, AZERTAC
The Patent and Trademarks Center of the Republic of Azerbaijan has granted a patent to senior research fellow of the Institute on Genetic Resources of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, PhD in Biology Govhar Rasizade and honored agricultural worker, PhD in Biology Oktay Babayev for inventing the "Technique for fighting phylloxera”. The patent was registered with the State Register.
The newly-invented technique offered by the Azerbaijani scientists is designed to be applied in the field of agriculture, in particular, viticulture for combating the quarantine pest of the grape vines - phylloxera. The laboratory tests carried out using a microscope confirmed the effectiveness of the extract obtained. Most grape varieties, which we inherited from our ancestors, today face the threat of extinction. Using this drug will allow to save them.
The newly introduced method for combating the phylloxera could have several advantages. As an environmentally friendly method, it allows to avoid using toxic chemicals and pesticides that are harmful to the environment. In addition, it is considered as a zero-waste method, since the raw material obtained as a result of preparation of the extract can be easily used as sidereal fertilizers.
Apart from wine-growing, the obtained drug can also be useful in other branches of agriculture (cotton, wheat and melon growing). It is likely that the invented extract can be also used in the field of health care, particularly, for killing cancer cells.
