Bahmanli carpet – a classical pattern of Karabakh carpet-weaving school

Bahmanli carpet composition is one of the classic samples of the Karabakh carpet-weaving school.

The name of Bahmanli carpet is associated with the village of Boyuk Bahmanli in the present-day Fuzuli district of Azerbaijan.

The composition of the central field is formed by the figures of a peculiar shape, lined up in a row. Of special interest are the compositions with one or two figures in the central field.

According to old masters of carpets these figures characterizes “statue”, “brazier” and “turtle”.

The figures recalling animals are related to the totem of turtle belief of one tribe.
