China Daily interested in building cooperation with AZERTAC

Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) and the leading Chinese English language newspaper China Daily have reached an agreement to embark on cooperation. The agreement was reached as AZERTAC Chairman of the Board Aslan Aslanov, who is in Beijing to attend the 1st Media Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), met with the leadership of China Daily at the newspaper`s premises. The meeting coincided with the 37th anniversary of the publication of the first edition of China Daily. Deputy editor-in-chief of China Daily Wang Hao highlighted the activities of the newspaper. He said that with a circulation of more than a million copies, China Daily covers domestic and world news through its print editions and digital media worldwide. Wang Hao said China Daily is the first media outlet to launch its internet website in China. He said the newspaper attracts high-end readers from diversified fields, including diplomats, representatives of international organizations and transnational corporations, international media reporters and editors, as well as foreign tourists. The number of China Daily`s foreign readers exceeds the number of local readers, which bears evidence to the newspaper`s global influence, he said.
AZERTAC Chairman of the Board Aslan Aslanov hailed the development of Azerbaijan-China relations in recent years. He emphasized the significance of expanding cooperation between the two countries` media. Aslan Aslanov hailed good relations between AZERTAC and Xinhua, saying that building and developing cooperation with other Chinese media outlets, including China Daily will be mutually beneficial.
Aslan Aslanov highlighted the activities of AZERTAC. “A legacy of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which celebrates its centenary these days, AZERTAC is the leading news agency of the country, the only source of official information for local and foreign media.” He pointed to AZERTAC`s growing role on the international arena, saying the agency now holds the presidency of News Agencies World Congress and the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA). “AZERTAC produces news in 7 languages, including in Chinese. We maintain close cooperation with the Confucius Institute in producing news and teaching Chinese language to employees of our agency.”
AZERTAC and China Daily stressed the importance of launching news exchange at the initial stage of cooperation, and agreed that the next stages should include implementation of joint projects, experience exchange, reciprocal placement of banners on each other`s websites and other issues.
AZERTAC Chairman of the Board Aslan Aslanov toured the premises of China Daily, familiarizing himself with the work of its departments, including design and photo news divisions.
