RICHARD ARMITAGE: “HEYDAR ALIYEV WAS A MAN - GREATER THAN THE LIFE”
To bid farewell to Heydar Aliyev, who was known as world scale politician and one of the brightest leaders on the international arena, the high rank representatives of numerous states, representatives of the US governmental structures and members of the Azerbaijani Diaspora leave their heartfelt and sorrowful words in the Mourning Book.
As stated, in New York, chairing at the UN General Assembly session Julian Hanta, before discussion of the issues on the agenda, on behalf of all the members of the General Assembly expressed deep condolence to the government and people of Azerbaijan on the passing of President Heydar Alirza olgu Aliyev.
Expressing his gratitude for sincere words, the permanent representative of Azerbaijan in the UN, Ambassador Yashar Aliyev said demise of the great statesman, nationwide leader of the people of Azerbaijan President Heydar Aliyev is a heavy loss for the nation. Azerbaijan has lost its prominent son, who devoted all his life to his people and country, strengthening of peace and understanding among all the nations of the world, he stressed.
The US First Deputy Secretary of State Mr. Richard Armitage visiting the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Washington, expressed condolence on the passing of President Heydar Aliyev. Making notes in the Mourning Book, Mr. Armitage told AzerTAj correspondence:
“Secretary of State Mr. Colin Powel and all my colleagues at the US Department of State today joining me express their condolence to the family of Heydar Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan. For us, he was a man - greater than the life itself. I think, the world has become smaller from his absence. We trust in the God’s mercy and nobility. We are convinced that He will be merciful towards Heydar Aliyev. We know that your nation under the leadership of Heydar Aliyev’s son Ilham Aliyev will endure this heavy loss. My people will completely support you”.
