TRADE OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY GOODS TO BE REGULATED BY LAW
Member of the Milli Majlis Standing Committee on Legal Policy and State Building Affairs Jahangir Huseynov announced that majority of remarks and proposals advanced by the deputies in the first reading had been taken into consideration by the working group. After the broad discussions, the draft Regulation has been approved in the second reading.
Speaking of the draft law “On Introducing Amendments and Supplements in Customs Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, Chairman of the Milli Majlis Standing Committee on economic policy Sattar Safarov said that today Azerbaijan has established economic relations with 130 countries, and import/export operations with them are regulated by the Customs Code. However, he noted the issue of control over the illegal trade of goods related to intellectual property is not reflected in the Customs Code. That’s why the Code needs to be supplemented, he said.
Later on, Sattar Safarov submitted a new draft law “On Mail Service” for discussion, which has been passed in the first reading after debates.
Richard Boucher: Azerbaijan Bolsters Anti-Terrorism Participation
The U.S. State Department Spokesman Richard Boucher released a press statement in Washington D.C. May 13, the US Embassy in Baku told AzerTAj. The statement says: The U.S. welcomes Azerbaijan's accession to all 12 of the international counter-terrorism conventions and protocols that we track in our annual Patterns of Global Terrorism report. We applaud Azerbaijan for this achievement. Azerbaijan is a solid partner in the global war on terror, with a history of pursuing terrorists within its borders and either trying them under Azerbaijani law or rendering them to countries seeking justice. Azerbaijan has strengthened anti-money laundering laws and has acted to freeze assets and close accounts held by known terrorist financiers. Azerbaijani law makes terrorism a crime punishable by life sentence.
