AMBASSADORS OF GOODWILL OF UNESCO
For achievement of this purpose, UNESCO has founded honorary titles to assess the work of outstanding persons of the world which is carrying out activity, connected with distribution, propagation of its ideas in the field of science, education, culture and sports, service to the peace. These titles are subdivided into four categories: Ambassadors of Goodwill, Special envoys, Masters of Peace and Sports Champions of UNESCO.
Honorary titles are awarded to the persons who have devoted their talent and authority to propagation and realization of ideas and the purposes of UNESCO at the international level, brought in the contribution in the field of art, culture, science and educations and engaged in social charity.
Now 41 Ambassadors of Goodwill of UNESCO takes direct participation in attraction of attention of the public to actual problems of the present to which the organization gives great value, and to propagation of culture of the world. Work of popular art workers - musician Mstislav Rostropovich, fashion designer Pierre Karden, singer Monserat Kabale, actress Claude Cardinale, princesses of Morocco Lala Mariam, the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus, the spouse of the Great Duke of Luxembourg Maria Teresa, the French cosmonaut Patrick Bodri, well-known football player Pele and other known persons coincides with ideas and goals of UNESCO, therefore they have been conferred with the title of the Ambassador of Goodwill.
Cooperation of ambassadors of Goodwill with UNESCO consists in rendering support to realization of its various actions and projects. So, organized in the headquarters of UNESCO photo-exhibition “Give the floor to the forgotten children”, creation of the educational center on protection of cultural heritage of Afghanistan, the International Fund on Higher Education in Iraq, such projects as “Prevention of poverty of women”, “A Drop Of Water ” in Bangladesh, have been realized with direct assistance of the Ambassadors of Goodwill.
