ANFNO APPEALS TO OSCE CHAIRMAN-IN-OFFICE FOR ASSISTANCE IN RELEASE OF AZERBAIJAN SERVICEMAN FROM ARMENIAN CAPTIVITY
Azerbaijan National Forum of Non-governmental Organizations (ANFNO) has appealed to OSCE Chairman-in-Office Anhel Moratinos for assistance to release Azerbaijan army soldier Samir Mammadov, who had been taken captive by Armenian troops in December of 2006.
The appeal says negotiations of Azerbaijan’s relevant bodies and international humanitarian organizations with the Armenian side on the release of Samir Mammadov have failed to achieve any results.
According to the document, fates of more than four thousand civilians and servicemen taken captive or hostage remain unknown. In the appeal, the Forum describes all this as another proof of open violation by Armenia of Geneva Convention and other international law norms.
Copies of the appeal were sent to the Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis and President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Jacob Kellenberger.
