ARMENIA SHOULD HOLD CONSTRUCTIVE POSITION IN SETTLEMENT OF CONFLICT
Having noted importance and use of the meetings with co-chairmen in Baku, the deputy foreign minister informed that discussed were present position in negotiations and the further steps in the field of settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
He has told: “The co-chairmen have suggested to carry out at the end of January or the beginning of February of the next year a meeting of presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan. As he said, Azerbaijan now seriously considers carrying out of the said meeting. The Azerbaijani side considers, that for a meeting of presidents there should be serious bases. Mr. Azimov has not excluded carrying out a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs with a view of preparation.
Having noted, that much promises 2006, A. Azimov has emphasized, that is important, that the opposite side has held a constructive position.
Clearing up the question of participation of Nagorno Karabakh as another side in negotiations, the deputy foreign minister has declared, that Nagorno Karabakh is a component of Azerbaijan. Now, there has been created the notorious far-fetched regime in Nagorno Karabakh, and also carried out ethnic cleanse in adjoining occupied areas. The population of the Armenian origin living there are citizens of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan never refused dialogue with the citizens. However, now the negotiations are being conducted between Azerbaijan and Armenia. In the question of settlement of the conflict, Azerbaijan bases on norms and principles of international law. Further status of Nagorno Karabakh should be determined jointly by the Armenian and Azerbaijani population of Nagorno Karabakh within the framework of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and principles of international law, on democratic bases. Any other variants in the given question are unacceptable.
