ATAA’S 24TH CONGRESS COMMENCED
In the large discussions on numerous aspects of the American-Turkish relations, also were focused the issues of Turkey and the European Union, democracy and Islam, situation in the region after the Iraqi crisis.
In his address to the Congress participants, Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed the significance of participation of high level Azerbaijani delegation at the Congress. He said: “The years of departure could not break the ties between the peoples of Turkey and Azerbaijan. On the contrary, after Azerbaijan regained state independence our bilateral relations have based just on this round”.
Touching upon the current state of the Turkish-Azerbaijani relations the Premier stated that the high level of the political relations should be acquired in the field of trade and culture as well. The Premier of Turkey called on the American businessmen with Turkish origin to widen their cooperation. Reminding that Turkey and Azerbaijan locate at the junction of Europe and Asia, Mr. Erdogan spoke of the necessity of cooperation of the two countries to ensure development and welfare in the region. He, in particular, said: “In the near future, the energy resources of the Caspian basin will be soon transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipes to the world market. But significance of the Caucasus is not only in this”. Calling the region as hotspot of the instability and conflicts, the Premier said that he sees establishment of peace in recognition of every country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Mr. Erdogan also spoke of the priorities of Turkish policy, of the position of Turkey related to the issues of Cyprus and European Union. Addressing all the members of the American Turkish Associations Assembly, he called on taking interest in the US policy, partake in the public movement and be active in expansion of the US-Turkish relations.
On the second day, the Congress is expected to hold discussions on the issues related to Azerbaijan. Also are expected to speak at the discussions, the minister of culture Polad Bulbulolgu, chairman of the SCWA Nazim Ibrahimov, ambassador of Azerbaijan to Washington Hafiz Pashayev, representatives of the Azerbaijani Diaspora in America.
