Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry responds to Russian ambassador's interview on peacekeeping contingent
Baku, February 13, AZERTAC
In response to a local media inquiry regarding the interview of Mikhail Yevdokimov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Azerbaijan, published in the "Izvestia" newspaper, Aykhan Hajizada, spokesperson for Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, highlighted several key points.
“As it is well known, according to the Statement of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the President of the Russian Federation dated November 10, the period of stay of the Russian Federation peacekeeping contingent in the Republic of Azerbaijan ends in 2025.
Following the counter-terrorism measures carried out by Azerbaijan in the region last year, there arose a necessity for regular meetings and discussions regarding the daily activities of the peacekeeping contingent and their various needs.
Moreover, given the extensive landmine planting conducted by the armed forces of Armenia over the last three years in our territories where the peacekeepers are deployed, as well as the problem of unexploded ordinance in the area, consultations are required to implement joint efforts aimed at addressing these challenges,” Hajizada said.
