On June 21, minister, Chairman of Judicial-Legal Council Fikrat Mammadov has met Ms. Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, who is in the country for participation in 33rd session of the Islamic Conference Foreign Ministers.

Cordially greeting the guest, the Minister has told about purposeful measures on protection of the human rights, which are carried out in the country, adhering universal values and democratic principles. He spoke of the concrete work on increase of efficiency of justice and modernization of judicial system, including on election of candidates in the judge on the basis of the most democratic and transparent rules.

Having noted fruitful cooperation of the country with the Council of Europe, the Minister has with satisfaction reminded of the participation in the plenary session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities in Strasbourg, his meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Terry Davis and other officials.

Positively having estimated democratic changes in Azerbaijan, Ms. Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, has noted that with greater interest watches work on modernization of judicial system. She also stressed that the Council of Europe is ready to render all-round aid to updating of judicial activity in the country according to the international standards.

At meeting, exchange were views on cooperation in improvement of activity of municipalities, training of judges, carrying out of reforms in penitentiary system and in other questions representing mutual interest.
