AZERBAIJAN CONSIDERS LITHUANIA A PARTNER
PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV RECEIVES DELEGATION OF LITHUANIAN MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
The Head of Azerbaijani State noted that relations between Azerbaijan and Lithuania are quite good. Congratulating the guests on the Lithuania’s joining the European Union, President Ilham Aliyev has described the event as great achievement. Remembering his recent staying at the European Union, he stressed that Azerbaijan is actively integrating into this organization.
President Ilham Aliyev noted the two countries have good prerequisites for economic cooperation, and that Prime Minister of Azerbaijan had recently visited Lithuania and held fruitful talks there. We consider Lithuania a partner and want to establish cooperation in all spheres, he said.
The Azerbaijan’s leader expressed confidence that the Lithuanian delegation’s visit will promote strengthening mutually beneficial relationship.
On behalf of the President of Lithuania, Deputy Foreign Minister Darius Yurgelevichius conveyed to President Ilham Aliyev congratulations on the coming Day of Republic, and invitation to pay an official visit to his country. Our countries are indeed entering the phase of intensive and all-sided cooperation, and the visit of Azerbaijan Prime Minister to Lithuania, and our visit to Azerbaijan are graphic evidence of this, he said.
According to Mr. Yurgelevichius, his country’s membership in the European Union will create practical opportunities to inform the big European family on Azerbaijan’s wishes and interests. We want you to take us as your advocates and friends in the European Union and other Euro-Atlantic structures, he said.
President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan also considers Lithuania as a friendly country. We were very pleased of Lithuania’s accession to NATO and the European Union, he said. The Head of State called the new neighboring program mentioned by the guest as very important for Azerbaijan, meeting the strategic course towards integration, and opening new prospects for the country. He also remembered his visit to NATO and speech at the North Atlantic Council. Lithuanian Ambassador addressed the meeting as well, and her speech was very positive. This points to high level of mutual understanding established between our countries, President Ilham Aliyev added.
The Head of State noted as well that Azerbaijan would move forward to further integration. In the framework of the individual plan of partnership, we have already taken certain steps. This is the transition from the “partnership for peace” to the next phase. In all these directions, our country counts on support and cooperation with Lithuania, the President concluded.
Present at the meeting were Chief of the President Administration’s Foreign Relations Department Novruz Mammadov and Ambassador of Lithuania to Turkey and Azerbaijan Galina Kobeskayte.
