Baku, September 19, AZERTAC
For the first time, Azerbaijan participated at the fifth International Biennale of Glass (IBG) in Sofia, which brought together over 200 glass artists from 50 countries.
Mahar Maharramov, a glass artist and a lecturer at the Faculty of Arts of Garabagh University, represented Azerbaijan at the prestigious exhibition with his unique glass carpet titled “Darvish.”
In his remarks, Professor Konstantin Valchev, IBG Art Director, noted this event is one of the most prestigious gatherings in the field of glass art worldwide, which has been held since 2017.
According to him, Azerbaijan’s inclusion in this distinguished lineup made an important step in terms of international cultural exchange.
Among the exhibition’s other highlights were works by Czech pioneer of optical glass and conceptual sculpture Václav Cigler, a blown glass piece by renowned American artist Dale Chihuly, a mythologically symbolic appliqué vase by Murano master Lucio Bubacco, and a spatial-analytical installation by Dutch artist-architect Han de Kluijver.
Hosted at the “Square 500” building of the National Gallery in Sofia, this prestigious exhibition will run until November 30 and is set to mark a new chapter in the history of contemporary Azerbaijani glass art.
