Azerbaijan elected Codex Alimentarius coordinator for Europe

Azerbaijan has been elected coordinator of the Codex Alimentarius Commission for the European region.
The relevant decision was adopted during the 34th session of the FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for Europe, in Berlin, Germany.
Azerbaijan was proposed to assume the role from Germany. All 52 members of the committee unanimously supported Azerbaijan's candidacy.
Azerbaijan will begin carrying out its functions from the next session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
One of Azerbaijan's main responsibilities as coordinator will be to lead the committee and help coordinate cooperation among European countries on the work of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, food safety and the implementation of international food standards.
