‘Azerbaijan important partner of UN Development Program’
Baku, October 18 (AZERTAC). “Azerbaijan`s cooperation with the United Nations` agencies is of great importance. I appreciate it as an opportunity for Azerbaijan in terms of showing its contributing to ensuring peace and security in the world. Azerbaijan is an important partner of the UN Development Program,” Hannah Moosa, President of International Model UN Security Council Conference, told a news conference in Baku.
Moosa praised Azerbaijan`s dynamic and overall development in last years.
She said International Model UN Security Council Conference, to be held on October 21-25, 2013 in Baku, will be organized by the UN Development Program and Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The UN official said the four-day conference will bring together students and graduates from 45 universities of 15 UN Security Council member countries.
Selected candidates will participate in a two-day pre-conference training workshop to be organized in collaboration with the UN DPI HQ and followed by a simulated session of the UN Security Council.
During the conference, participants must employ a variety of communication and critical thinking skills in order to represent the policies of their country. These skills include public speaking, group communication, research, policy analysis, active listening, negotiating, conflict resolution, note taking, and technical writing.
The theme of the Conference is “Cyber Security”. Students will have the opportunity to hear from experts from various UN agencies specializing in the field of cyber security.
The participant countries are China, France, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, the U.S., Argentina, Azerbaijan, Australia, Guatemala, Luxembourg, Morocco, Pakistan, the Republic of Korea, Rwanda and Togo.
The Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about civics, current events, effective communication, globalization and multilateral diplomacy.
On January 1, 2012 Azerbaijan was elected a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council to December 31, 2013.
