Azerbaijan, Laos expand cooperation

On April 20, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with his Lao counterpart Thongsavanh Phomvihane on the sidelines of the 82nd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific held in Bangkok.
The sides fondly recalled the first political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Laos, marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
They also discussed the current state of bilateral relations, as well as prospects for expanding cooperation in the political, economic, humanitarian, transport, logistics, and other fields, highlighting the importance of the Middle Corridor in this regard.
Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane stressed the importance of cooperation in education and noted the establishment of the Laos–Azerbaijan Friendship Association.
The foreign ministers also exchanged views on developments in the Middle East.
The meeting further focused on prospects for cooperation between the two countries within international organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, of which Laos is a member.
The sides also discussed other bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
