AZERBAIJANI-FRENCH RELATIONS WILL BE DEVELOPING IN ALL FIELDS

On the same day, the delegation of French Senate met with members of Azerbaijani-French inter-parliamentary cooperation group. The head of the group Gular Ahmedova told the guests about Azerbaijani-French relationships. She underlined that these relations are permanently developing. Personal friendly relations of the two Presidents, documents signed during visits created a good basis for development of cooperation.
Touching upon the upcoming Presidential Elections, Gular Ahmedova underlined that the Azerbiajani state will do its best to hold the elections in democratic, fair and transparent situation. Further, she informed the French delegation on Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno Karaakh, its historical roots and consequences.
Having expressed gratitude for warm reception, the head of the delegation Ambroise Dupont pointed out that France is very much interested in development of relations between our countries as well. The aim of their visit to Azerbaijan is foundation of a French Culture Center in Baku and participation in exhibition of Azerbaijani artists. Works of Azerbaijani artists will be represented to the French Senate in September 2004. Besdies, France is very attentive towards the upcoming Presidential Elections in Azerbaijan, he said. French observers will be monitoring the course of the elections, he added.
Nagorno Karabkh conflict is, really, a complicated problem interfering seriously development of the region. After the Presidential Elections in Azerbaijan, negotiations on settlement of the conflict are to be held at the initiative of the French President and Senate. We hope that after resolution of the conflict, progress will be forwarded in the region.
Further, the participants of the meeting discussed other issues of mutual interest.

On August 31, the delegation visited the Guba region of Azerbaijan met with local executive power, visited the monument of Genocide Victims, committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in 1918.
The head of the executive power of Guba, Mehman Ibrahimov greeted the guests. Ambroise Dupont said he was visiting Azerbaijan for the fourth time and can observe changes and success achieved not only in oil sector but in other fields as well.
After a visit to the synagogue in Krasnaya Sloboda settlement, inhabited by Jews, the delegation of French Senate returned to Baku.
The guests were accompanied by Minister of Sport, Youth and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev, Ambassador of France in Baku, M-me Chantal Poiret, and Milli Majlis members.
